Merry Christmas

Every christmas over the years we are either traveling or just moving.  This year was the first time since 2006 that we have had a "normal" christmas.

Christmas 2006
We had moved a few months earlier from Adelaide, South Australia and were living on the Canals in Mandurah, Western Australia.  We had a tree, breakfast with family and my daughter saw Santa as he dropped by in a boat to drop off gifts.  We did not realize at the time that this would be our last normal christmas for a few years.

Christmas 2007
Still in Western Australia, but not for too much longer.  We had just moved into a new home and did not even have the tree unpacked.  We have no family photos from this time as we decided at the last minute to throw some things in a case and travel down South to Margaret River to celebrate instead.  We passed Santa on the way, with a helper standing  outside a rural petrol stop handing out candy.

Christmas 2008
We spent it in our home in Spain but there was no tree.  The streets were full of lights and decorations, the council had a Christmas Train for the children and there were plenty of little Santa's hanging from high apartment building windows...but the 3 kings bring the presents in January so there were no Christmas Trees to be found in any stores.  We still celebrated, but we also had to buy another set of presents in January for our daughter.  I am still not sure how she managed to talk us into that but I know this may have been her best ever christmas.

Christmas 2009
Germany.  We did not have a tree..... again.  We three were sleeping uncomfortably in one bed in a small hotel and that is where we unwrapped our gifts, a few small things that didn't weigh down our suitcases too much.  We opened them at 6am because two hours later we walked to a train station and caught a train to Austria.

Christmas 2010
Back in Australia.... Melbourne this time.  We had yet again moved house and because it was the son's first christmas we found the tree, unpacked that and left the rest of the house a mess of boxes.

Christmas 2011
We have moved again.  Now we are living in Asia.  We spent Christmas Day in a pool on top of a hotel in Thailand.  We had secured a home but all of our belongings were in transit from Australia.

This Christmas
Bangkok.  We were finally able to celebrate in our own home, unpacked and relaxed.  Our house was decorated, there were lots of gifts.  We spent the day in our home enjoying each other's company and doing nothing!  Although it was wonderful, we hope to have more frantic, disordered Christmas Day's ahead.
